A mashup is when a person takes two different pieces of media and combines them in some way to create something new. For example, in the article, 1 + 1 + 1 = 1, music mashups are when a person takes two pieces of music and combines their music and lyrics. Usually, the songs have something similar that allows them to be combined such as key. The article, Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why?, shows that movies and television shows can also be mashed up. One example it gives is making various characters from Disney or Spongebob sing the song “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” by Soulja Boy. These kind of things are fun for people to watch. It takes media that people enjoy and make it even more enjoyable by adding on with content from completely different places. While also providing content for people to enjoy, mashups also allow for more exposure from the creators of each piece used. This kind of content can lead to creativity because sometimes you can combine two things that would end up making complete sense to be together.
